Ocun Climbing Adhesion Technology,
Each CAT mixture has a unique recipe with a precisely determined chemical composition and technological procedure.
μ Friction Coefficient, μ [m(y)o?o] is the coefficient of static friction.
It expresses the ability of rubber to adhere to the base surface. Rubber compounds typically have μ values under 1.0.
The correlation between μ and rubber adhesion is a direct relationship – the bigger the μ, the better the climber sticks to the rock.
µ ≤ 0,9 standard rubber, µ = 1,1 - 1,4 high friction rubber, µ ≥ 1,5 super sticky rubber
The OCUN Climbing Lab has developed its own method of measuring and determining coeffients that simulates real climbing conditions
The CAT μ 1.1 is the harder and more resistant of the Ocun new compounds.
In adhesion tests it achieved very good results. Its main advantages are long lifetime and low abrasion.
They use CAT μ 1.1 on beginner models and on rock shoes that need to last a long time, where an emphasis is placed on resistance to abrasion.
Despite the emphasis on durability, the blend is also highly adhesive.
Recipe for Sticky sole rubber
The starting materials for rubber mixtures are now made mostly synthetically.
Natural rubber or caoutchouc is still obtained by making incisions in the bark of rubber trees, but the vast majority of rubbers are made by chaining hydrocarbons derived from crude oil.
But rubber is not only caoutchouc. Did it ever occur to you that soot is also important for it?
Main ingredients : Synthetic caoutchouc (rubber), Soot, Light fillers (mainly quartz), Paraffin, Antioxidants, Softeners, Vulcanization system (sulphur and vulcanization accelerator)
