30D / 40D, the high tensile yarn, high thread count 30/40D ripstop nylon face fabric of our Air Sprung Cell™ sleeping mats is quiet, light and extremely durable
On the inside, is applied a bright white TPU to make the fabric airtight and weldable
- it also contains a permanent antimicrobial treatment to ensure mold will not form on the inside of the mat
These characteristics combine to form the strongest, most durable air mat fabric available
On the outside, they apply a thin proprietary coating to reduce the slipperiness of the surface, increase water resistance, and aid puncture repair with the included self-adhesive patches
Air Sprung Cells™
Instead of the typical baffled construction, Sea to Summit sleeping mats are constructed using a dot-weld pattern to create a high surface-area matrix of interconnected chambers called Air Sprung Cells
Air Sprung Cells operate in the same way as a pocket spring mattress, as each cell deforms independently the mattress conforms to your body shape which feels softer and more comfortable with more body contact area and even dispersion of pressure

R Value: ASTM F3340-18 R-values
An R-value (Resistance-value) is a metric used to rate how effectively your sleeping mat resists heat loss
It’s the only way to know how well your mat will prevent your body heat being leeched away by ground temperatures (which can be a lot colder than air temperatures)
This value can be tested in-house but at Sea to Summit their mats are independently tested at a laboratory to precisely controlled standards
The industry standard ASTM F3340-18 testing has now been introduced and all Sea to Summit mats released from 2020 onwards are tested to this standard
Where values do change, it doesn’t signify a drop or increase in warmth, it simply means they have been tested using a slightly different scale.
The Airstream™ Pumpsack is Sea to Summit's big volume mattress pump which has now been integrated into the stuff sack of every Air Sprung Cell™ mat
The clever design opens at one end to stow the air mat and the other end unfolds to become the built-in pump
It can be inflated with a single breath and takes just two or three cycles to fill the mat
Not only is it faster than inflation by mouth, but there is minimal breath condensation entering the mat and it eliminates dizziness from blowing the mat up directly by mouth
The Airstream™ Pumpsack is also compatible with Sea to Summit's smaller multifunction valve, which is now featured on the updated Aeros pillow range, along with the Air Seats
Unlike reflective films used in conventional sleeping pads, Exkin® Platinum is silent
The Pillow Lock™ System comprises of self-adhesive hook-and-loop patches which are supplied with all Sea to Summit sleeping mats
Attached to your sleeping mat, these patches secure your pillow and prevent it slipping – yet they will not snag on clothing or other lightweight fabrics
